"I delivered my baby when the doctors said I wasn't ready"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I went into hospital at 9am on a Monday morning because I was 39 weeks pregnant. My water had broken and I was bleeding. They kept me in all day as I was 2cm dilated. It got to 11 pm and they said I could go home. I said I didn’t want to so they sent my husband home. By 12.30am I was having bad contractions so they took me to the labour suite at 5.30 am. My partner couldn’t get back to hospital till after 6.30am so I was on my own until he got there. When it happened they said I wasn’t ready but I saw my baby already on the bed with his cord round his neck which made me very scared. I am due my 5th baby in 12 weeks time so I hope it’s better this time round.

I support the organisation in making sure that the voice of patients and the public is heard and used in planning services. This involves running events, managing surveys, and building networks with the local community.

I am sorry to hear about the problems you had when you delivered your baby.

I have been told this by Midwifery Services at Rotherham Hospital:-

"We run an Afterthoughts Service, where people can come in and talk through their experiences and raise concerns with senior staff. If you would like to come to this, or would like to meet with someone to talk about your concerns before you have your baby, please contact us. You can ring Karen Norton, who is the Head of Midwifery, on 01709 304344"
