"Nurses were wonderful but doctors had no feeling at QMC"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / General surgery

(as the patient),

I had pancreatic cancer and attended QMC for treatment. I thought there was excellent pre-surgical service, treatment, information and care and excellent surgical treatment, infections apart.

There was wonderful care by nurses back in the ward who were always (almost without exception) kind and attentive despite being very busy.

I was less impressed by the courtesy and communication skills of all the doctors. There were so many with no feeling or shared knowledge of the patient, with little sense of continuity.

I would also ask why there is no way of isolating the inevitable noisy, confused or difficult patient which ensured that no other patient, ill and tired, could get any sleep?

Incidentally, I waited 48 hours to see a doctor or consultant only to be waved at from a four yards range with a “he’s all right”.
