"Southmead hospital needs my mum's bed for another patient"

About: Southmead Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted to Southmead Hospital last week and she was diagnosed with breast cancer, cancer in the lymphoids of the liver and diverticulitis.

She cannot look after herself without help. Admittedly she is 81 years old and doesn't want to have an operation on her stomach as she is so weak and she is quite strong willed and is still trying to fight the infection with antibiotics.

The doctors want her out of the ward so they can have it for another patient who would need the bed more in their eyes, but as she is my mum I am very concerned because I feel they don't care.

We told the doctors she can't look after herself as she can't even stand very well, doesn't eat anything as she can't swallow - and we were told by one doctor it is her decision, but that this is an acute ward and they need it for someone else.

They are prepared that she is going to go home to her country home in the middle of nowhere and be in pain, because she won't take her meds without someone watching her and she is going to die suffering in my eyes.

I am mobility impaired and I can't help her either, and I am so concerned for her wellbeing and feel so helpless.

Also she doesn't want to go in a home, which I can understand after all the news you hear about them.

I am beginning to think that the staff have to be very hard and uncaring.
