My husband who died in June 09 was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in August 08. We were immediately provided with a whole raft of support and advice which I found invaluable. As he became weaker the District Nurses visited regularly and organised help such as day and night sitters periodically so I could get some rest. They were anxious for my health as well and tried to give me as much support as possible, I can’t praise them enough. In May 09 my husband became so ill we had to call the emergency doctor, ambulance service and paramedics; they were wonderful!
He spent two and a half weeks in Hayward House Hospice. I did not find the nursing staff there so understanding though the physical care was satisfactory. He spent the last 12 days of his life in a nursing home where I was able to stay with him all day. This was paid for by the NHS as he was on Fast Track. I am totally satisfied with the wonderful service provided by the NHS in Nottingham.
