"Royal Hallamshire - Ward HI - mixed sex wards"

I was extremely upset and embarrassed on my admission to The Royal Hallamshire ETAU department. Although my GP had phoned the hospital and arranged for my admission, I was placed in a poor bed bay with 3 male patients. I was in considerable pain and very distressed, I found my surroundings extremely stressful.

I was kept in the holding ward for 14 hours prior to being taken to the ward that I knew I was going to be admitted to, of all the things that need to be altered, placing female and male patients in adjacent beds when they are at their most vulnerable would be top of my priorities.

My stay in hospital was prolonged due to the investigation by various doctors to why I had been subjected to so such pain over a period of 8 months. My concern is that it took 8 months for the correct diagnosis to be made, that it was a tumour in the urethra. I have a 20 year history with different cancers and this has been the longest delay in treatment I have had. Hopefully I have been diagnosed correctly now and dealt with.

I am tempted to say the food could have been better, but as it is purely a personal opinion and each patient has a different view it is probably as good as it is going to get, although it would be nice if it was not such a gamble, and you could actually get the items ticked on the menu.

I would like to thank all the staff on H.I at the Royal Hallamshire, they were without a doubt extremely caring and friendly, to single one out would be wrong.
