I was admitted to MAU at Kings Lynn after suffering chest pain whilst at my GP surgery.
The paramedics were calm, confident and reassuring.
Mau I was seen by no less than 5 doctors of varying seniority and each one disagreed with the other :)
I am a retired nurse so a bit "picky" about my treatment, I was required by chest pain protocol to stay 12 hours pain free before discharge and since I was not feeling I was being helped in any way ( I do have other illnesses which complicate the diagnosis a bit ) I sat and waited out my time until next days discharge.
If I had more confidence I would have admitted I still had chest pain but just decided to get home.In my opinion it is Sad that a hospital in which I worked has become so disjointed about treating people. I would be ashamed to work there now, I hate when doctors (or nurses) refer to patients as the part which is wrong with them, ie the hip fracture, the chest pain etc.
I always said every nurse and doctor should spend a few days in a hospital bed, bed pan essential before they qualify !.
I do however think we in the UK still have one of the best health services for emergencies like accidents, cardiac and intensive care.
I think the NHS should get the managers out of there comfy offices and get more nurses where they are needed.
