"Long wait and prescription problems on my discharge "

About: Manor Hospital

(as the patient),

After hip revision surgery in August I was put on ward 9. Most things were fairly good and consultant saw me the next day. He said I had to go for x-ray which I did the following day.I had work with physio and started doing my own exercise as I had found this beneficial a few months previous.

Monday came and as I came back from a little walk I was informed by a junior nurse that I would be going home. I stated that my doctor had not seen me and I did not know the results of my x-rays and also I did not feel ready to go as I had been constipated for 5 days probably due to pain killers.

My consultant and his assistant saw me and talked about x-rays etc and that they would see how I was tomorrow. After walking away with the ward sister they came right back and said I was being discharged then,I took this to mean she had promised my bed.

I was taken to the departure lounge while my paperwork and prescriptions were prepared. The staff in the lounge were A1 but after nearly 2 1/2 hrs when my prescriptions came all there was was aspirin. No painkillers or laxative,at which the departure staff tried everything only to learn the pharmacy was closed.

They got back onto the ward who then made up my prescriptions. After almost waiting 4 hours I was on my way home at 7.20pm. To say I did not feel fit enough before I was a nervous wreck when I finally got home. It seemed to me to be a case of out of sight out of thought and it could have really knocked some elder people back. To most of the staff thank you and to some enjoy your job?
