About: Southampton General Hospital

After arriving at Southampton General with my girlfriend who suffering server back pain (by ambulance) we were put into a waiting room totally out of the way and made to wait for nearly 3 hours before being seen. During this time at no point did anyone let us know what was happening. After asking 3 nurses what was going on I was told that they would find out and get back to me, they were never seen again!! I would risk the pain of any problem to seek a hospital elsewhere, this place is a complete joke and puts the NHS in very bad light!!!

We were very sorry to read your comments and that no one kept you informed about what was happening when you attended the hospital with your girlfriend. We assume you attended the Emergency Department and are sorry you had to wait three hours. Along with the rest of the country our services have been under extreme pressure. Patients are seen in order of clinical priority and need and although we appreciate how distressing back pain can be, it is not life threatening. We acknowledge that patients may have to wait longer than we would wish in what are challenging times and we sincerely hope that your girlfriends back pain is resolving and much improved.
