About: Duchy Hospital

ALL I can say is this, if your private then you get the best of the best, if your NHS and was refered to the Duchy then you get NHS treatment, and in my case no treatment what so ever, I am a NHS patient and had my appointment with the Duchy Hospital cancelled twice because they told me that I could not have a consultation with a consultant about my knee because I suffer from angina, they told me that if something went wrong with my consultation then they don't have the facilities to treat me in case I have a angina attack/heart attack. now that seems a bit strange because I am only going to see a consultant and have a chat as to why I am getting pains in my knee and hip, I am not having a operation or anything like that, its just a chat. not to worry duchy I have now gone private and will be attending another private hospital

The NHS services we provide are agreed with local commissioners. We are not commissioned by them to provide surgical services for patients with certain pre-existing medical conditions. Although your pre-existing medical condition may not have affected your initial consultation, if you had required a procedure as part of a course of treatment we may not have been able to provide the surgical treatment. We are not allowed to accept the initial referral where there is a strong possibility that we would have to refer a patient to another provider for treatment because of their other pre-existing medical conditions. We are sorry we were not able to accept your NHS referral, and that you have chosen to go elsewhere for your private consultation.
