"Cancelled knee operation due to bed crisis"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Orthopaedics (Bones, Joints and Fractures)

(as the patient),

For the second time my op for a total knee replacement has been cancelled due to the 'Bed Crisis'! People had arranged holidays so as to be able to help me when I get out and quite likely they will not be able to get the time for when I next have an appointment to go in.

Who is to blame, not the poor nurses who must dread having to tell people that there are no beds. Poor management I assume. My life has been put on hold till I have had this op and I am sure many others will feel the same.

Dear Patient

I am so sorry to hear about your cancelled operation and completely understand the difficulties this has caused for you and for the people who had taken time off work to help with your rehabilitation. This inconvenience cannot and should not be underestimated. I hope your operation goes ahead soon and that you are able to get the help and support you need.

In the meantime I have asked someone from the service concerned to explain why someone's operation would be cancelled not once but twice. It does not seem to me that "bed crisis" adequately explains what has happened.
