One of the overall impressions I formed at the hospital during my stay is that mentally disturbed patients should be segregated from normal mainstream patients as they can cause alot of distress to other patients. I feel sorry for them but I think they need specialist supervision and care away from other patients. The nursing staff were generaly very good especially in the daytime. At night I got the impression that the agency staff sometimes couldn't care less. The wards need a lick of paint to brighten them up a bit and perhaps a few artificial flowers placed here and there. I thought it was also a shame that there are no longer any day rooms where patients could get a change of scenery and relax. The food wasn't too bad overall but the standard needs to be raised a bit. I heard some patients say they would have liked a bacon sandwich for breakfast but no bacon or sausage was on offer at breakfast. A friend of mine who worked at the hospital years ago said that bacon and sausage were on the menu when she was there. Why has it been stopped ? I could tell that the nurses were under a lot of pressure at times and most of them coped admirably. They definately need more staff.
"Generally good. Improvements needed in some areas."
