"Thank you so much"

About: The Great Western Hospital

I had my first baby in late November 2014 and can't thank staff enough and I feel like I met everyone there! I gave birth in the White Horse Birth Centre and my midwife was fantastic. She listened to my preferences but when we started having difficulties gave me enough information to make a decision and delivered my daughter safely. I was then taken down to theatre following a bleed and she came with me and held my hand through an epidural and stitches. All the staff in theatre were fantastic and I felt listened to and informed throughout. The midwife then helped me settle in the Delivery Suite and helped me breastfeed. Two new midwives then took over and helped me freshen up and answered questions about my care. They were kind and made me and my husband feel much more relaxed following the drama. I stayed two nights on Hazel Ward while I had blood transfusions and again the staff were fantastic, especially when I had a meltdown over feeding and felt overwhelmed by the whole experience. They were sensitive, respectful, kind and listened to me even though they were tremendously busy. We were readmitted after going home when my daughter developed jaundice and ended up back on Hazel as they didn't have room on the Children's Ward. The nurses there were so apologetic when they had to move us and gave me dinner even though I wasn't technically a patient as I hadn't eaten that day. Once again we were looked after by everyone and I felt supported and encouraged. My daughter is now a healthy 12 week old, I am still breastfeeding despite my initial problems and lack of confidence and we are settling into our new family life. I can't thank the staff enough, they were professional and efficient but also kind and understanding.

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback on your experience when you must be being kept extremely busy by your 12 week old baby. It’s wonderful to hear you felt listened to and supported, and that our staff were understanding and kind. We will ensure this is shared with our midwives who will be delighted to hear this and appreciate that you have taken the time to share your experiences with us.
