"Poor mental health services"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

Appalled at the attitude of the Consultant Psychiatrist my 18 year old daughter saw today. A complete waste of an appointment. The first time ever she's gone into an appointment on her own because we get told she has to be more independent, which took a lot of guts as she has major anxiety issues. He refused to prescribe medication the community psychiatric nurse suggested she needed, told her she should forget about becoming a nurse as she is 'too shy' (since when do doctors offer career advice?) and when she tried to tell him about her self harm, he told her there were people worse off than she is. Talk about kicking someone when they're down. Thanks for that. If you has read her case file you would seen she has emotional problems due to PTSD following a sexual assault that Camhs never gave her help with. And no, I don't want to take the matter up with PALS, had problems with Camhs when she was under them and nothing was done. Mental health services in Bolton are shambolic. Perhaps your Consultants could learn some people skills. Just a thought

We can't comment on the care your daughter has had recently as this is not provided by this Trust. However we are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the care your daughter had from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. If you do not want to take up your concerns with PALS, perhaps you would like to consider talking directly to the manager in charge of the service.
