"Met with smiles and friendly words"

About: Scarborough General Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

Please pass on our thanks to the staff at reception, one of your new doctors, Cherry Ward and in the restaurant. I didn't make note of any names but the impression I had was that staff were all friendly and looking to help.

I drove to Scarborough Hospital yesterday, making the journey from Oxford with family to visit an elderly relative in intensive care. The journey took 5 hours each way and I was unfamiliar with the hospital or the local area.

Firstly I would like to congratulate you on having plenty of parking and at a very reasonable cost (compared with our local hospitals).

The staff at the hospital were all lovely. We arrived, tired and worried about our relative. The woman on reception had a warm smile and directed us well but we couldn't find the ward so asked for further directions. The young doctor was again very friendly and despite saying it was only his second day, he directed us acurately and we arrived at the busy ward. We then spoke with a couple of the nurses who were clearly busy but took the time to talk to us. They were both kind and friendly - thank you.

We were met with more smiles and friendly words in the restaurant. We were late and a little emotional but the hot food helped restore our spirits.

So, nothing earth-shattering, just kind, friendly faces at every part of our short visit. This was very welcome and appreciated - thank you.

The only area which could be improved was signage - both in the car park to the main entrance and to Cherry Ward which appeared in much smaller writing on the signs compared to Chestnut Ward for instance.
