"Really quite disappointing"

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital

Hi there, Having just found out about my pregnancy, I took the decision to self-refer to Queen Charlotte's, as it states on the website. I called the number and was passed around 2 or 3 different departments, before being passed through to bookings. I explained that I was trying to refer myself, at which point I was shouted at by the staff member. Who said they didn't know why women think they can just call up and expect to refer without going to the doctor. They were literally shouting at me. I asked them to please stop shouting and they hung up on me. I have had really fabulous treatment at Queen Charlotte's in the past, and I still hope to have my first child there, but I was very upset and taken aback by the behaviour of this staff member, and think that if self-referral is not offered, it should please be removed from the website to prevent other newly pregnant women from being shouted at, at a time when they are potentially feeling at their most vulnerable as I was. I love this hospital, but feel very disappointed with this first step into the world of antenatal care. Kind regards, LCO
