My wife had a stroke after returning from shopping and could not speak. I dialled 999 and the ambulance arrived whilst I was still on the phone to the ambulance service. She was taken to East Surrey hospital and immediately assessed by a team of doctors who specialise in the treatment of strokes. She was transferred to Chaldon ward where she was very well looked after by the friendly and very helpful staff.
Unfortunately, after about five days in hospital she developed further complications, which can be common in stroke patients, and was transferred to the coronary care unit where she received further expert treatment. Fortunately she recovered from these complications and was transferred to the Holmwood ward. As her condition improved she was transferred back to the Chaldon ward where she started to receive speech therapy and physiotherapy.
After three weeks in East Surrey hospital she was transferred to the stroke unit at Crawley hospital today.
We are looking forward to her continuing improvement whilst she is at Crawley.
I have to say that I was overwhelmed by the care provided by the NHS at East Surrey hospital. They were so helpful, kind, loving, compassionate and professional. They saved my wife's life and I can't thank them enough. This especially applies to the staff in the Chaldon ward, but all of the staff we met were the same.
"So helpful, kind, loving, compassionate and professional"
