"Eye problem solved At Treliske and West Cornwall Hospitals"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Ophthalmology West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance)

(as the patient),

The retina of my left eye tore in two places and my sight was clouded by blood.

I got to Treliske in the mid afternoon and was triaged through Accident & Emergency to the Eye Casualty Unit, where an expert Sister examined me. However, by then it was late afternoon and, as I had driven to the hospital, I arranged to come back the following day.

The consultant lasered my eye but couldn't finish the job as the eye was clouded with blood. I came back two weeks later and the job was finished. Two weeks after that, I was examined by another consultant at the West Cornwall Hospital and discharged.

The staff of both Treliske and West Cornwall were excellent. They work under some difficulty, with crowded waiting rooms and constant complaints about the expensive parking charges by the private firm running parking service. ***I am extremely grateful to them.***

I don't know why I had to travel to Penzance for the check-up appointment. It would have been impossible by public transport. It would have been helpful to have had some printed information about my eye problem and some written advice about how to avoid further damage to the eye, during the healing period.
