I can't commend the staff and facilities enough. Secretly, I was a bit nervous going in for my op as it was such an intimate thing to have done. I arrived at 12pm and spent a bit of time on the ward pre-op which was ok as I knew there'd be some waiting around. (Take a book or something to occupy you - it'll make the time go quicker). Ward staff on the Sanderson Suite were really friendly and made me feel welcome. When it was time to go to theatre (around 4pm) I was put at complete ease and everything was explained to me and there was ample opportunity to ask questions or address any concerns I had. The theatre experience was so positive, the surgeon and team were very professional and yet personal enough that I didn't just feel like a specimen on a gurney; they involved me in everything they did, checking on me and double checking without being over-indulgent. I found myself chatting away throughout the whole op and really connected with the staff who were nothing if not genuine. When I returned to the ward, post-op, the nurses made me tea and biscuits/toast. I did just want to get dressed and go home, but they have to monitor your for an hour or so whilst the local anaesthetic wears off; this was okay, they're just doing their job. I was given a pack to follow-up with the hospital, a date to return my specimen and information leaflets. In short, I really recommend this facility and the people who made it comfortable to be there, nothing short of excellent service.
