"Gloucester unit (Maternity)"

About: Lister Hospital

Went in on 1/2/15 as I felt early labour... Was monitored on machine for 2 hours and kept being told only 10 mins later... When they did an investigation they found I was 5cm dilated but unfortunately my little boy was breech - things moved rapidly from there into threatre and I was given a c-section... I was very happy with the care I recieved here. However... When transfered on the Gloucester ward my care was horrific! Not only was I not told what was going on - after requesting pain killers, I waited over 1 hour for response more than 5 times... I was made to feel like a burden on the staff and the following day when attempting to go the bathroom - I was mocked the staff by the way I was walking. This was so cruel when I was having so many issues with breastfeeding on top on an unplanned c-section... I felt 'unmotherly' as I couldnt give birth myself and now on top I couldnt produce enough milk for my little boy. I can now see how women develop post-natal depression - caused by the way they are treated by the midwifes!

Whilst we are pleased that you were happy with the care you received before your baby was born, we are so sorry that your experience after his birth fell below the standard that you should have been able to expect. We’d like the chance to investigate. If you’re willing, would you send us some more details to generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net so that we can look into what happened? Meanwhile, we hope that you – and your little boy – are both well and happy.
