(as a carer),

I've just come back from an evening for carers who support someone who is experiencing mental distress in St Helens. Tonight's social event was organised by together family support workers to encourage all the groups to meet each other and attend other groups.

There are several groups in St Helens. One of them - the Carers Reference Group - is for carers who want a more active role in improving services. We send a monthly mailout to keep people up to date with what's happenning locally.

Many of the carers there tonight were interested to know more about local and national changes to services. They were concerned that there is always change and that they can't keep up with it. They also had many stories to share.

Overall, the one strong opinion was that they all really valued sharing and talking to other carers. Speaking to someone in a similar position helped them to realise they weren't alone.

Thank you to the staff of together for supporting all the groups - and thank you also to the Manager of Iris Ward who attended our meeting tonight.

Thank you for taking the time to make this posting and I apologise for the delay in responding.

I think it is really good that carers have an opportunity to support and help each other. I know from experience that talking to someone who has experienced similar issues can often be a great help.

I hope you are keeping well.
