"Long delay in follow up after heart attack"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Cardiology

(as a relative),

Husband (52 yrs old) had a massive heart attack in October last year for which he had 2 stents inserted immediately - he was lucky to have survived.

On discharge we were told he would have a follow up appointment for 3 months which would have made it January - but appointment was sent for early February at Lincoln which we were quite happy to attend. This was cancelled the week before his appointment.

Have been informed today after ringing Consultants secretary that appt was cancelled as we live in Grantham and my husband needs to be followed up here. The appointment that we received at the end of January out of the blue with no explanation for the end of June is that appointment!

So his 3 month follow up appointment is now 8 months. Absolutely disgusting. He has been to further tests for which we were waiting the results but now have to wait til June.

We were depending on last weeks appointment so we could ask questions regarding further anaesthetics etc as he also has ongoing issues with his hip (courtesy of ulht) that is being dealt with at QMC.

Fuming is not the word, livid is not the word. It beggars belief.

Dear Tabs45

Thank you for leaving these comments and I do feel the whole situation is not acceptable. Can I please ask that you contact our PALS team at Lincoln County Hospital on 01522 707071 or email pals@ulh.nhs.uk. The team will be able to take more details from you so they can look in to why this has happened and speak to the speciality to hopefully bring the appointment forward as 8 months is an unacceptable wait for your husband.

Regards

I am really sorry; we posted a response to this story on the Patient Opinion website on 11th February this year; I do not want you to think that we hadn't listened or heard about your experience.
