"Not good enough"

About: Kettering General Hospital

My elderly mother recently had to use the ambulance service and KGH, after suffering acute stomach problems. After initial assessment by a paramedic, he called for an 'urgent' ambulance to come to tKe her to KGH. It took 2 1/2 hours to arrive. The care she received while at A&E was good but ridiculously slow. She was then put on Deene Ward A. She was woken up by a nurse 3 times during the night to fill out forms and be asked questions she had answered already several times. The ward was loud with all of the noise coming from staff. It was cold, untidy and chaotic. The doctor who eventually came round in the morning was rude, abrupt and belittling towards her. She had no water and had to ask for tea and toast in the morning. That was all she was given by 1pm. No water, nothing. Meanwhile nurses hurried about shouting and talking loudly about their own problems with no respect or consideration for the patients.

I am extremely saddened to read your review and I am sorry that you and your mother have had this experience on Deene A ward. I would like to investigate your mothers care further to ensure that this does not happen again and ascertain what lessons can be learnt. If you feel you would like to discuss this further with me, please contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01536 493306 who can put you through to me directly. Jo Milton Interim Lead Nurse-Surgery
