"Overall I was very grateful and pleased with my care"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

C.T. Scan and lumbar puncture

Admitted in Feb 2015. Despite a long wait in A & E when I saw the staff they were very pleasant even though they were so busy.

I was admitted to the busiest ward you could imagine. Demented patients were on the move all night & screaming & shouting continued throughout the night.

I got 2hrs sleep the 1st night & about 4 hrs sleep the 2nd night. I cannot commend the staff of that ward & the 2nd ward I was transferred to enough. They worked hard, were patient & considerate to every one of those patients & they even had the ability to calm you in what were worrying circumstances.

I would particularly like to commend Richard, Michelle, Andrea, Sue and James for their excellent care & consideration. Please convey my thanks to them. I did indeed manage to attend my mothers funeral the same day I was discharged!

G-docs in Scotland seem to relieve waiting times in A & E. A smaller gauge needle for lumbar punctures would perhaps prevent 3 attempts to aspirate the spinal fluid. ie 22gauge instead of 25gauge. Maybe demented patients could be sedated.

Overall I was very grateful & pleased with my care. I do appreciate the pressure that the NHS is experiencing during the present climate.

Dear Lucinda

Thank you for your feedback. Sister Hansord will share your comments with the A&E team.

Please can you provide further detail regarding the ‘ward’ area you were transferred to so I can ensure your feedback is shared with the appropriate members of staff. Our staff do appreciate positive feedback. If you are willing to contact us please call Sharon Kidd, Patient Experience Manager on 01476 464560 and she will be able to take further detail to pass to Sister Hansord.

I am sorry to hear your sleep was disturbed during your time on our wards. We encourage the nursing staff to aim to keep unnecessary noise to a minimum to promote a good nights sleep for patients but this is very challenging particularly within our busy admission wards. If you feel you would like to discuss this issue with me further please provide your contact details.

I do hope you have now fully recovered.

Regards

Tracy Bell
