"No compromise for NHS patient"

About: Droitwich Spa Hospital

I chose the BMI Droitwich on Choose and Book, purely because it had an appointment to offer within 2 weeks of being referred. My initial consultation was efficient and all staff treated me with respect and dignity, there was no indication that I was an NHS patient, I am positive that had the exact same treatment as their fee paying patients. My consultant felt it necessary to conduct further investigations under general anaesthetic, and this procedure was necessary ASAP. My apt was less than 3 weeks later, again at the BMI. I had a pre opassessment a week before, and was booked on to the list for 2.30. As a diabetic they realised that I should be first on the list and again all staff were so accommodating. From being met in reception and taken to the ward, to being discharged later that day, every member of staff was outstanding from ward clerk to consultant they all treated me as a person. I know I was lucky to be given the option of having my treatment in the private sector paid for by the NHS, but I was apprehensive they might cut corners, take the edge off their care. But at no time was I made to feel I didn't belong or shouldn't be asking for assistance. Nothing was too much trouble so thank you to everyone. Nhs wards will be busier and under more pressure so I understand that they will not be able to make that extra cup of tea, but treating patients as a person, making sure they feel comfortable every step of the way is essential. Asking a patient what they would like to be called, every member of the team introducing them self before they whizz you off into the unknown is just so comforting. Perhaps some Nhs managers could take a leaf out of the private sectors book and cascade it down to their teams. Thank you
