"No hand washing in minor injuries"

About: Good Hope Hospital

(as a relative),

I went with my mother to minor injuries at the begining of last month as she had had a minor accident at work. She had an assesment fairly quickly but we then had to sit in a bay for quite some time before seeing a doctor. The bays are awfully small, 2 beds in one room seperated by a disposable curtain.

My main concern was the fact that we weren't asked to wash our hands once the whole time we were there, despite passing through 3 door with hand wash. We didn't see any of the staff wash their hands either. I saw one nurse dealing with various patients without gloves and she then didn't wash her hands. She was also touching the bins (despite the fact that the bins had pedals) and then touching patients, computers, chairs etc without washing her hands.

I thought this was quite remarkable considering the whole time we were sat in the bay we were facing a massive "Infection control at Good Hope Hospital" poster.
