Pre-op treatment of my son was compassionate and caring. He (we) were very nervous and we were reassured and made to feel at ease. Post op however was a different story. The nurse accompanying us to the ward was short with me. After arrival on the ward we were left for over an hour and only when my son vomited bloid did they come. They stripped the bed and didnt return for 1 hour 45 mins to remake his bed after numerous requests as he just wanted to sleep. A student nurse noticed this and apologised for this. 2 nurses in the ward were rude and unhelpful, other parents on the ward discussed this and felt the same. No water was offered to my son, i had to go looking for it. I was shouted at by a nurse for pulling emergency button when my son was choking, even though i had pressed the buzzer 3 times and ran to get a nurse who told me she would be there in a minute. The nurses on night duty (there was 2 of them) were fantastic professional and caring. It is a shame that some nurses and lack of communicatiin are this bad. The doctors were typically stiff and clinical, but gave good information.
