"My partners care"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Vascular surgery

(as a relative),

He was refused a call out by our family doctor, he got worse so I called an ambulance, he was admired with septicemia and was told his sugar levels were 24. 5, he was put on acute medical ward, then told by the consultant they didn't think he'd survive .. Then he's been placed on another ward .. Under there supervision, or lack of it i feel, he's had a lumber puncture to check for whatever, he's had scans searching for meningitis.

The main thing wrong with him is he's an amputee and the vascular team say he has a blood clot in his femoral artery and it's not operable it would spread around his body and kill him, So there's NOTHING more they can do meanwhile his stump area and the remaining part of his leg is dying off due to blood not feeding it ... He's sleeping quite a lot as there's nothing to do day after day.

I've never been so angry about things up till now, his consultant has now got a second opinion to do another scan looking for encephalitis? I am his partner and they are not asking / or keeping me updated which is disgusting, lots of red tape, I've visited every day and what ive seen is absolutely absurd, people getting out of bed, one spilt water all over my partners bed, he was left in wet bedding due to this.

On numerous occasions ive had to ask for pain relief for my partner, who so I've been told won't get better how long he's got was ( can't answer. ) very very distressing to see, and watch the patients being ignored, This supposed caring career has really opened my eyes.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on the care and treatment your partner is currently receiving at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the lack of communication and understanding you feel our staff are displaying to your partner and your family. I would appreciate it if you could make contact with me as soon as possible on 01253 956374 / eleanor.walsh@bfwhospitals.nhs.uk so I can personally look into this matter for you. I will be speaking with the areas involved about their conduct and share your comments with them as I’m sure they will be very disappointed to read about your experience. The vast majority of our staff are extremely kind and compassionate and as a Trust we are committed to ensuring all our patients have an excellent experience whilst accessing our services. I am sorry to hear this has not been the case in this instance and I assure you I will do my upmost to sort out this issue immediately.

Many thanks

Eleanor Walsh
