I was seen a few weeks ago for the first time in the Gastroenterology department at Queen Alexandra Hospital. The consultant who saw me was very friendly and welcoming and took the time to talk, in detail, about my symptoms. He made sure that he had noted everything I said and then discussed diagnosis treatments with me. He made sure that I was offered all appropriate tests and that I understood the procedures, then allowed me to decide which I would prefer.
What stood out was how caring and compassionate he was, taking time to ask me about my diabetes and learning more about my history. He was also very focused on listening to how my symptoms were affecting my day to day life and reassuring me that he would do all he could to help me.
At the end of the appointment he summarised and dictated our discussion for it to be sent to my diabetes consultant and GP, with myself copied in, to inform them of the next steps. I was very impressed with the appointment and the attentive, personable care and patient-centredness that I received that day.
"Caring and compassionate consultant"
