"Poor Service at Swindon Great Western Hospital"

About: The Great Western Hospital / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

My Daughter (2 years old) has had on going problems with her ears for 10 months. They kept on cancelling appointments to see the consultant.

Ended up contacting my MP to help. Went to see a Junior Doctor in an ENT trauma clinic which I knew nothing about until my doctor contacted them She mentioned that when I see the senior consultant they would discuss having grommets fitted.

No antibiotics would stop the discharge. Last week we changed her ear drops and they seemed to work..

The consultant has now taken her off all medication to see if she would grow out of it. We have to go back in 3 months.

In the mean time she is not putting on any weight (her weight issuse started about the same time as her ears). The dietician seems to think her issues with weight and not eating are being caused by her ears. The ent consultant says this is not the case. Who am I to believe? The Dietician will not do anything about her eating habits or weight issuse until her ears have been sorted.

It seems to me that everything is being delayed from the lack of action from the ENT Dept.

There was poor management on my doctors side and the hospital. No one took any swabs of her ears until a month ago. So why did it take 9 months to take a swab. She ended up having 3 different bugs in her ear(1 of which apparebtly is difficult to treat.

She is ammune to any antibiotics, as she has been on them every month for the last 10 months.

Now it is just a waiting game.
