"I have been very satisfied with the way in which I was treated by 111"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111 St George's Hospital (Tooting) / General medicine

(as the patient),

I have called 111 several times since November when I made the first call. All the calls were answered quite quickly and I have been very satisfied with the way in which I was treated by 111.

In November I cut my heel as I walked across the road to visit a neighbour. Following a call to 111 an ambulance was sent and I was taken to St George’s A&E to have the cut treated.

I was at St George’s from 1: 00am – 5: 00am, my heel was stitched up and I was sent home.

The following day, having slept for much of the day I felt unwell in the evening and called 111 again. A doctor came to see me, confirmed I had a very high temperature and advised me to go to A&E again.

For the next 3 days I visited Urgent Care daily having intravenous antibiotics for half an hour each time. On the 4th day the hospital staff realized I was not getting any better and re-examined my foot. Further checks showed that the infection had penetrated deeply and I was admitted into hospital for in-patient treatment.

After I was discharged I continued to have antibiotics at home and a burning sensation in my heel which was not eased even with an ice pack. During this period I called Harmoni several times, an existing condition, osteomyelitis, in my other leg was aggravated as this led had to bear more of my weight until my heel had healed,

After Christmas I had to call 111 one more as I had food poisoning. On this occasion it took longer for the doctor to call me back, I assume they were busier than usual due to the holiday period.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about your visit to A&E at St George's Hospital. We are very pleased to read that your experience was a positive one of both 111 and St. George's hospital.
