"Out of hours service after calling 111"

About: South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111

(as the patient),

I had to use the 111 service last Saturday morning as in the night I had suffered with shortness of breath, wheeziness and cough, as I have emphysema I needed to get antibiotics and steroids before Monday. In a way this was my fault as I should really keep a spare prescription! I certainly will in future and did apologise to the nurse practitioner who told me not to worry.

Anyway, 111 was very quick and efficient and sent me to out of hours nurse practitioner. Visit was very quick and she agreed that I needed these drugs. I was however concerned when she asked me which antibiotic I took and what strength and how many mg of prednisolone I took a day. I did not say anything to her but I understood from this that my records could not have been available to her. This worries me! What would happen if someone gave the wrong medication, what if there was a contraindication? If anyone was confused or trying to get a drug they should not have what would happen?

Dear Dafg

I wanted to write to thank you very much for providing feedback about the NHS111 service. We know the service has improved significantly since it began almost two years ago, but it is so nice to receive comments from people who have used the service and to know you found it quick and efficient.

I do hope the steroids and antibiotics have begun to work and you're now feeling much better.

With thanks and best wishes, Louise Hutchinson

Well thank you for your response but you didn't really answer my worries about not having patient records available?
