"Very grateful for the prompt treatment"

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) (London)

I had a bad reaction (after about 3 days) to a drug that my lung specialist prescribed so turned up at the Chest and Allergy Clinic at 9.30 am without an appointment to ask for help from the nurses there. The staff at the clinic are very approachable otherwise I am not sure what I would have done. I did contemplate calling 111 or 999 but thought that it was all too complicated to explain to someone without detailed knowledge of my condition and the treatment I was under. Everyone was fantastic. I was put under observation for the whole morning, and saw the lung specialist 3 times. She did a complete workup on me. We had a conversation about the possbility of my being admitted for observation over night, but that was something that I preferred not to do unless absolutely necessary. As I live near the hospital I was allowed to go home for the night armed with direct phone numbers should my condition get any worse. I also saw the specialist a couple of days later. At no time did anyone make me feel a nuisance. Although the clinic was very busy (actually it was really packed out), several of the staff checked on me over the morning and all the staff appeared aware that i was havng a few problems. I did ask the specialist if I had done the right thing turning up unnannounced. She said that really my only other option had been A&E but that as the staff at the clinic knew my background and could react promptly that I had done the right thing. it would have taken much longer and been much more complicated had I gone to A&E I have also lived in NZ, Australia, Hong Kong and the US and I honestly believe that the treatment that I am having at the Chest and Allergy Clinic is unparallelled.
