I had high intensity therapy for PTSD, some of which was caused by childhood trauma. I had no idea how much these early life events had impacted on my self-perception and had altered my view of the world.
I was encouraged to question whether these views were factual or just my beliefs. This was an enormous turning point for me and I can honestly say my life is changing as a consequence of this therapy. Part of the therapy dealt with processing memories and as a consequence I no longer have the intrusive images/ flashbacks that have haunted me for decades.
My therapist treated me with the utmost dignity and respect and supported me through the most painful episodes. I feel that the therapy went at my pace and I was kept well informed of my progress. I came away with good coping skills and am continuing to utilise these.
The only downside was one of a practical nature. It was not easy to have to finish sessions and exit through a usually very busy waiting area, especially as I was extremely tearful.
