"Once again, thank you is not enough!"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

On Weds evening/Thurs morning I had a major MS relapse. I had a fall as I was not able to transfer to my wheelchair (even with the use of my banana board) I was admitted to Ward 12 PIU (via A&E and the Assessment Unit) where the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help you - even when under extreme pressure due to their sometimes excessive workload. The level of teamwork shown is frankly unbelievable at times. The only fly in the ointment was a "nurse" who was not up to the exceptional standard of the other nurses. They attempted to take my blood pressure with a cuff which was blatantly too small due to my large arms. Well, 5 years of pushing a manual chair will do that to a man. When I pointed the inadequacy of the cuff they paid me no attention and took the attitude that I did not know what I was talking about an d we should "just give it a go" they held the Velcro fastening closed with her, therefore applying pressure and distorting any reading. To make matters worse they placed the cuff over my cannula which caused a lot of pain. Once again, I was ignored when I told them of the issue they were causing. In short: Staff 11/10 Bank Nurse 3/10 (and that's generous)
