"I was scared receiving general anaesthetic"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

I had a tonsillectomy at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. I was very scared having a general anaesthetic as it was my first one. I was tearful when the nurses came to take me to theatre but everyone tried really hard to calm me down. When I actually went into the theatre the two nurses and the anaesthetist were brilliant and they really put me at ease. Afterwards the nursing care I received on the ward was excellent. I took an eye mask and ear plugs to help me get to sleep and I think this really helped as there are always some lights on and noises in the night.
