I am due to have my baby at east surrey hospital next week and have had lots of contact with the hospital during my pregnancy. While most of the clinical staff have been great, some are not, and all of them have been let down by terrible administration. I have never had to wait less than half an hour for antenatal appointments after my allotted time, often much longer, I have had appointments delayed so much that I've had to miss them, I have received letters detailing appointments days after they were due to take place, and I have received details of appointments with no explanation as to what they were for. There is no accounting for patient time and inconvenience in the NHS in my experience, which I resent more and more as I have missed more and more working hours to sitting in hospital waiting rooms. On top of this, while most of the clinical staff have been great, I have come across aggressive midwives, very uncaring consultants and a general set up where every doctor or nurse gives their own personal view of how my care should progress, which is often completely contradictory and very upsetting. On more than one occasion I have had to really stand up for myself and demand to see every member of staff supposedly involved in making decisions about me to force a proper explanation of what they are doing for me and why, and I find this really unacceptable.
