"14 year old with kidney infection"

About: Bedford Hospital South Wing

On our third tip to A&E with quite frankly a bizarre set of symptoms, my son was eventually diagnosed with a severe kidney infection and admitted to the paediatric ward. The care he received at your hospital was exemplary and we would like to pass on our thanks to everyone concerned. He was immediately placed under the care of Great Ormond street who monitored his progress closely which was very reassuring, but it was the doctors and nurses on the ward who really looked after him and we were soon back on our feet. Everyone from the Sister (what a legend) to the porters who took him for ultrasounds, to the ladies who brought the delicious meals, to those who cleaned the wards were friendly and caring. The teenage / day surgery area was calm and quiet and he was very comfortable during his 3 night stay. It must be distressing to work so hard for the NHS but constantly read about bad standards and service in the press. I hope you let your staff know how well they are doing by comparison. They are a credit to you.

Thank you very much for letting us know about your experience, and that of your son, in our paediatric ward. The staff working in the unit are indeed a credit to the hospital and they will be very pleased to hear your lovely comments about the care they provided. Best wishes and thanks again. Paul Cooper
