"Food at Highbury Hospital"

About: Highbury Hospital

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

"Well... breakfast should be eggs, bacon, beans, tomatoes, fried bread if possible. the reason I say that is cos it gives people a hearty breakfast and fills them up. It makes them happier in the day time. "

" Lunch time should be a proper menu, no pasta seven days a week. It should be one day a week. They should be nice and soft even when they've gone cold, with beans or anything else. "

"The food should taste like food that you tasted when you were young like at school. "

"The plate sizes are alright but they should be as big as the ones you have at home. "

"Anything from sponge pudding to apple tart like schools have would be nice. "

"Tea is the same as dinner. We need different menus more often. Supper is exactly the same. It keeps you happy and relaxed when you get proper food. It stops you feeling tired and helps with the medication. "

"They should steam the veg so it's crunchy and not soggy so it keeps it's nutrients. "

"The menu should be changed monthly, each calendar month. So you know you've got something to look forward to. I've lost weight since I've been here. "

Hi there many thanks for the posting. Can I suggest that you take this to the ward manager to discuss and request that this topic is placed on the patient community meeting agenda for the ward. We welcome all suggestions around menus and what you feel would be of benefit. By taking this to the community meeting it opens the discussion up for wider debate and discussion with other patients on the ward.

Regards Andrea
