"Great A&E but very long wait in ACC"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

My partner attended A&E today and the care was excellent. The staff were great, especially the advanced clinical practitioner who looked after him and explained everything really clearly. Unfortunately we were sent to the ambulatory care centre after the second blood tests to wait for the results. Even though the nurse at ACC told my partner after two and a half hours that the results had been received and were clear, we had to wait a further three and a half hours for a doctor to be available to tell us exactly the same thing. We do understand that there is always going to be a wait and that emergencies happen, but six hours of waiting to be told a blood test was clear was extremely frustrating.

Response from Royal Derby Hospital

Firstly, may I apologise for the delay in responding to your kind comments posted on the NHS Choices website. Many thanks for taking the time to send us your feedback following you and your partners experience in our Emergency Department and Ambulatory Care Centre in January this year. We were pleased to hear you felt the care you received was good, but sorry to hear that you had a long delay and wait to get the blood results from a Doctor. We do understand how frustrating this can be, but sometimes, despite a blood result being clear, a Doctor may decide that further tests or additional follow up treatment is needed and this is why it is important to see a Clinician before leaving the Department. However, it is appreciated that this can cause an additional wait - for this we sincerely apologise! Once again, many thanks for taking the time to send us this review and also may we take the opportunity to wish you and your partner our very best wishes, Kind regards The Patient Experience Team, for Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
