"Dissapointed and very concerned for other patients..."

About: Leicester General Hospital

Its been 2 years since i have been off work due to a severe headache, weakness/paralysis problems with balance during attacks and speech disturbance. This has been going on for over two years now. I have recently been discharged with chronic migraines. I made a formal complaint regarding the way i was treated with the chief executive of LRI after numerous admittance. I received no reply to the complaint. Since this time i felt the level of care depleted and i was in the hands of neurology and felt helpless, no matter how many times i have advised them of my condition and the incapacitating experience on daily life seems to be completely ignored. I sent all my letter and results to a private Neurologist who diagnosed that i am experiencing Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine and that there is a distinct difference from chronic migraines. I can no longer afford to see this neurologist and they advised me to see my GP to arrange a second opinion. I did have a muscle test which showed a difference between right and left and weakness on the left side which is becoming worse. No stoke was identified. This is now affecting my day to day living and i feel incapacitated to go back to work, due to numbness in the left side and disturbed speech and problems with my memory and balance. I really do not know where to go from hear should i write to chief executive who failed to reply last time, await a response for a second opinion which my GP is arranging, or speak to my MP for intervention to highlight the quality of care from this department. All i am wanting is the correct diagnosis and the review of my medication as the private neurologist indicated that the medication i am on is standard issue and may not help me which i agree with as my medication are not helping and i feel i am taking these pills to keep the LGH neurologist happy that hey have done something to sort the problem out. When in realistic terms nothing has changed and i am unable to function in normal daily activities. It will be interesting to see if i get any response from this review.

Dear Raj We really sorry to hear you have been suffering from such a debilitating condition. We can’t imagine how difficult it must be for you. You certainly should have had a response to your letter and unfortunately we can’t explain why you didn’t receive one. We are truly sorry about that. The best way to submit a complaint is to our Patient Information and Liaison Service (PILS). You can do this by emailing pils@uhl-tr.nhs.uk. There is also more information about the service here: http://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/patients/patient-welfare/patient-information-and-liaison-service/ We realise you shouldn’t have to write to us again, having already sent us a letter, but this would be the best way to ensure this matter is resolved. So we’d strongly encourage you to get in touch with PILS. We hope to hear from you soon and wish you well. Sincerely Communications Team Leicester’s Hospitals
