About: Ipswich Hospital

Last thursday night I attended Ipswich hospital in the middle of the night due to extreme ear ache. I was greeted by a lovely women on the desk, she was fantastic. I was in a lot of pain and she calmed me down well whilst staying calm herself. She got my details and admission over with quickly and I was sat down comfortably within a minute of being there. I then went into a room just off of the waiting too. The lady did not greet me, she left the door wide open behind us so everyone in the waiting room was staring at me and could hear all that I was saying, she was rude, she did not even look me in the eyes. I was very upset. Even my mother, a nurse herself, was concerned and she is not phased by much. The woman then proceeded to go and collect some medication to help my ear unit a ear professional could come and check me over. She then left the door open at the other end of the room, so I was sitting there bawling my eyes out and holding my ear telling my mum I was in a lot of pain with around 15 people looking at me. I was devastated that so many people could see me. She then came back, plonked the medication into my hand and told me to go and sit down. Then another man came and got me. He is an EMT nurse, i believe (i have most probably quoted that wrong), but he was fantastic. I have never met such a calming personality. He completely relaxed me, explained exactly what has happened, my ear drum had burst, and he stayed with me to answer all my questions and explained thoroughly how to care for my ear and what to do in all scenarios. He made jokes to cheer me up, he maintained full eye contact at all times and he proceeded to reassure me and made sure I was comfortable before I left. A fantastic man and a credit to your hospital. Thanks
