"Someone pay attention!"

About: Southport & Formby District General Hospital

Back in August 2014 I visited my GP as I was experiencing double vision. They sent me to an optician for an assessment. Having done that, the optician confirmed that I has a muscular problem, but treatment would be readily available such as, prisms, or steroid treatment, or minor surgery. On receipt of this assessment my GP arranged an appointment in the Eye Clinic, at Southport & Formby General for 12 Sept 2014. After testing for approx. 1 1/2 hours I had a prism fitted to one lens of my glasses. The Dr said I should come back in 4 weeks and an appointment would be sent to me. I did say that I was going out of the country between 15 October and 10 November and asked that these dates should be avoided. On the 18 September I received appointment for the 31 October. I rang and explained I would not be available and was given the next available appointment which was 2nd January 2015. I went to my GP who re-arranged that appointment to 18 November. At that appointment, and a subsequent appointment on 16 December, with a Dr, after all testing and removal of prism (which now was ineffective), and the Dr conclude that the problem was moving from eye to eye making the prism useless, and was that the problem was muscular (I told him that in November) and he would refer my to a neurologist who could treat the problem with either steroids or surgery. On 21 December I received a copy of the referral letter to a different Dr with the first Dr's report and recommendations and a further appointment to see the first Dr on 5th January 2015. At that consultation after the testing, I informed that the double vision had been constant since Christmas, and the right eye was constantly closing for long and short periods, and that I had not heard before. The second Dr suggested I ring his secretary. The Dr secretary is part time. I finally got to her on Tuesday 13th January, and she suggested I wait a few days and if nothing by Friday 16th, contact Walton Centre. I rang them on Monday 19th, but they had nothing for me nor had they a request for appointment. Tuesday 20th I rang the second Dr's secretary and explained. She then admitted that nothing had been done and the referral had not been sent but confirmed that it would be done and I would receive my appointment by the end of that week. Today 26 January, I rang Walton to be told they only received the referral on 20TH January, and no appointment has been arranged. Would I ring on Tuesday 27th. I am almost housebound, suffering double vision permanently with eyelid closure. I cannot drive or go out alone. I told everyone that the problem was muscular. No one listened for almost five months. I paid my taxes for 54 years and get treated like this! How would you explain your lack of care and interest in my case?
