"For want of a Rotunda"

About: Forest Hospital King's Mill Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a carer),

My Mum broke her foot at her Care Home. She is now in hospital and stranded there getting distressed, because she wants to go back but the Care home does not have a Rotunda. The Red Cross won't supply one because it is a Care home. This has led her to be kept on the ward extra days, which is costly to the NHS so it would have been more effective if they had lent a Rotunda.

Furthermore, I am very concerned now about my Mum's mental health being jeopardised by this needless delay, since many of the staff on the ward do not think she really needs to have a Rotunda. My Mum's medication for 'mental health' already affected her mobility by causing Parkinson-like symptoms that severely reduce her ability to walk. If her medication could be adjusted with enough care then her health would improve. Meantime, she needs the Rotunda to be allowed home.

It is a great pity that the Care home had not got this equipment but it seems very silly that no Rotunda is available on loan for short term use. That could have saved prolonged time in hospital for my Mum.
