"consultant gave me the impression I was wasting..."

About: Trafford General Hospital

The consultant gave me the impression I was wasting his time from the beginning of the appointment, he didn't want to hear my symptoms, said he " didn't listen to hearsay, he would rely on my blood results only!" He sent me for various tests though. He was very abrupt throughout the process, said he didn't need to see me again, and at the end of the consultation was insistent that I completed a customer satisfaction questionnaire, which I had to fill out whilst he was present, (i wasn't allowed to taken it out of the department and I felt under pressure to give him a good review). Complete waste of time!

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope, when you attended your Endocrinology appointment at Trafford Hospital. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible. We are sorry that you felt you were not listened to by the consultant during your consultation, and you found his manner to be abrupt. This is not behaviour we would expect from a senior member of our staff. It is disappointing to read your account of how you were asked to complete a customer satisfaction questionnaire, as gaining patient feedback is invaluable in improving services. Your concerns have been raised directly with the staff in the department involved for their consideration, so that your experience is not repeated in the future.

However, it is very difficult to respond to the specific concerns you have raised without being able to investigate your experience in more detail. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about your experiences. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be happy to discuss this with you.
