"My bowel cancer treatment at Good Hope Hospital"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Colorectal surgery

(as the patient),

Following a two month period of strange bowel habits I had an appointment with my Doctor who during the consultation was composing a letter to the Colorectal department at Good Hope Hospital.

In November I had a phone call to meet a nurse at hospital the following day, she explained and prepared me for a Colonoscopy a week later.

Arrived at 9. 00 and following some blood tests and checks went for the Colonoscopy at 10. 30 by 11. 30 it was all over and at 12. 30 sat down with the Doctor who advised me she had identified some cancer cells and that I would now require a CT scan.

Next day had call from hospital could I attend for CT scan pm which I did.

A week later had meeting with consultant who had been assigned to carry out my treatment, he described the options and his recommendation for surgery which was offered to take place in December which after discussion with my wife and the nurse we deferred.

I then had my pre-op in December and surgery in early January followed by a stay on ward for a few days.

The care and attention I have received has been amazing I have the utmost respect for all the Good Hope team. No amount of money could have brought me better care. Thank you all.

I am delighted to hear that you had such prompt care ad attention at Good Hope. It has been a very busy period at the hospital and the staff have been working very hard. So it will be even more of a boost to them to hear your positive feedback. I will make sure it is passed on to them.

I hope all goes well in your recovery from the surgery and your ongoing care.

Matthew
