"Outstanding delivery and post natal care"

About: Victoria Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Last week I went for a planned C section. not expecting there to be any major issues.

From the beginning of my pregnancy I was under the care of Dr Urquhart and his wonderful staff midwives in the ante natal clinic who all treated me and my particular condition with courtesy, kindness and compassion. Dr Urquhart was just brilliant and made my pregnancy much much easier than the last one that I went through in another part of Scotland.

All went to plan initially. In the morning I was looked after Karen in the observation room who was so kind and helpful all morning. Then the doctor, Wojtek (please forgive my spelling) had clearly taken the time to read my birth plan and talked me and my husband through everything. In the operating room the staff were all very keen to put me at ease and they did so successfully. I would especially like to thank Katie the anaesthetist for keeping me calm and doing such a great job. Wojetk delivered our beautiful baby and she was looked after by Karen from then on.

Sadly things took an unexpected turn and things got serious very quickly. At this point I would like to thank Dr Tidemar from the bottom of my heart for acting so quickly and professionally and taking the best care of me, and my baby too. I know there were other people there but I can't remember all their names.

After it was all over I was sent back to the observation room for 2 nights where the care was outstanding. I was looked after again by Karen, Maureen, Angela, Lorraine, Lisa, and others too. I didn't realise at the time how well I was being cared for, so thank you all. Me and the baby were kept under close observation until we were strong enough to move to the post natal ward.

In the post natal ward I was taken care of by many once again, but especially by Liz. I was given the most comfortable bed, the best of service and lots of kindness. This made the pain and trauma much easier to deal with.

The day after I went home I was readmitted with more pain and again Dr Tidemar, Pauline, Connie, Alex, the sonographer and the midwives (in the post natal ward and in Triage) took excellent, professional care of me but all maintaining compassion and kindess throughout.

We are safely home now and on the mend but I want everyone in the hospital to know how amazing the staff are and from me, my husband and my two children we say a big thank you.

Dear SJC1983

First thing's first, congratulations to you and your family and a warm welcome to your baby! Sounds like that was a pretty traumatic time for you all; however I am gald to hear you are all now home safely and on the mend. Thank you for taking the time to tell us a about your experience and for saying thanks to the staff who were part of that. It is great that you have been able to identify staff as this means we can direct the feedback to them as well as sharing it more widely with the teams involved. There is nothing better than hearing about care being delivered with courtesy, kindness and compassion as this is exactly what we want for every person, every time.

Enjoy this special time and thanks again for sharing....exactly what I am off to do now..

Kind Regards

Louise Ewing
