I had two cardiac stents inserted during angioplasty as a Day Case. This was an excellent experience and I went home at 14.30 and had an uneventful recovery. Later I was telephoned by someone offering me a place of the cardiac rehabilitation course. I was not keen as I thought I was active enough walking daily with a friend over Pyrford Common but I said I would try it for half the sessions. I have now completed the whole course of 12 sessions plus two education sessions and have benefited from it immeasurably. I learnt a lot about myself and realised that my walking did very little to actually exercise my heart muscle, it was just a stroll for an hour 4 or 5 times a week all these years. My pulse was only 44 to 46 and I learnt at the cardiac gym how to safely work this up and then cool down with a lovely period of relaxation before going home. I was carefully supervised so that I need not fear that I might cause a coronary. The cardiac specialist nurses and physios were very encouraging and the course was extremely well run. I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone given the opportunity to go on it, especially those like me who do not like groups and fitness classes! Thank you everyone for your help and friendship and also the other clients on the course.
