"Exceptional care from staff nurse at cardiac day unit"

About: Wycombe Hospital / Cardiology

(as a relative),

Below is the letter I wrote to the Chief Executive following my experience at Wycombe General Hospital:

I am writing with regards to Mark Daquioag (Staff Nurse, Wycombe General Hospital) and specifically the care provided by him to my mother in December 2014.

I feel that it is absolutely necessary to convey my thoughts about this remarkable Nurse and which relates to the experience that my mother and I had during her angioplasty procedure at the Cardiac Day Unit.

I should make you aware that I am employed as a Public Health Commissioner for a London Borough and have also worked in frontline services in the NHS for many years; therefore I feel that I have a sufficient level of knowledge and expertise with respect to what constitutes as excellent patient care.

Let me start by saying that my impression of Mr Daquioag is that he is an exceptional and remarkable individual. From the moment we entered the ward at 11: 00 to when we left at 18: 00 his level of professionalism, is in my opinion, unparalleled. I am accustomed to writing these types of "reviews" on TripAdvisor concerning staff in hotels. Mr Daquioag deserves this level of credit. I can honestly say that I felt so proud of the NHS following my experience with Mr Daquioag.

What I felt was exceptional about Mr Daquioag was his attention to every detail concerning my mother's care. He was meticulous in his approach thus preventing any ambiguity or uncertainty so that my mother and I were so well informed as to everything that we were required to know and do. His degree of knowledge concerning medical conditions and procedures was of a very high standard and the confidence by which he delivered this information was so reassuring. His clinical nursing skills are second to none and it was such a pleasure and massively comforting to witness such a kind, polite, courteous and competent individual taking care of my mother. I honestly feel blessed to have had Mr Daquioag looking after my mother.

I understand from Mr Daquioag that he has only recently qualified; I found this unbelievable. Sadly I have come across scores of medical professionals with decades of experience that don't have a fraction of Mr Daquioag's abilities.

All I ask of you is that you kindly contact Mr Daquioag to make him aware of this letter that I have written. Please note, I do not make a habit of writing such letters (as it's hard to find the time) but this guy is worth writing about because he was impressive.

I would also like to say that my mother was admitted to ward 2a earlier this year and the staff on that ward were also very good.

Finally, I took time to write this as I know that healthcare providers are often criticised heavily yet when they do something well it often goes unheard; well I hope my comments don't.
