"FaB (ulous) Service"

About: Sure Start Centres

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

A new service ( FaB ) has been set up with Children Services working in conjunction with the Neonatal Services. The aim is provide support for families needs in their local area, reduce isolation, increase parental confidence and raise the profile of Children Centres.

Below are a few comments from families

'I want to shout about the support that has been given to me and my family from the fab service. It’s a huge thing having a baby on neonatal but with the help of the fab programme my journey has been so positive. In low dependency I was given advise on play development Tracey would put classical music on then we would have the fibre optic lights out we were encouraged to put our babies on their tummies sing to them and gave them sensory interventions including positive touch. The envionment was fantastic so much so that you forgot you were on special care it felt ‘normal’ it was also a taster to what surestart will provide which i had no idea about before I met Tracey. I do feel strongly that our baby’s life has been enhanced due to the support the fab service provided. '

'My Journey on neonatal has been made easier with having FaB advice and guidance, she has listened gave me fantastic advice and I am more confident about taking my baby home with me. I registered with Surestart and am looking forward to going to some of the groups'

'The FaB service is a fantastic Service. I Learnt so much when I was on the Neonatal unit with my little boy. Firstly I felt I wasn’t able to bond with him but the FaB worker helped me with this by showing me how to comfort hold, which progressed into skin to skin. I learnt how to play and help with my sons development and was given information about SureStart '

‘ A fantastic idea the FaB Project – Received lots of support and advce around bonding and to help development through the first years of a babies life. I built on my confidence and skills of having a prem baby '

'' As a single parent living in a remote location. It's nice to receive a phone call, just to check if we are okay. It's good to have all that information offered. As a new parent, you don't often know where to find support.

We haven't used Children Centre yet, but at least we know where to find it and what's on offer there. '

Thank you for this posting Sue.

It is encouraging to hear all the good comments parents are making about the FaB project and how they feel they have benefitted from using this. I realise for many parents having a baby on the neonatal unit can be very distressing for them, however it certainly appears that the FaB project is helping a number of these parents bond better with their baby and help them overcome some of their anxieties.

This new and exciting project adopts a real partnership approach between Sure Start staff and the Neonatal unit and is helping parents develop more confidence in their parenting of a premature baby.
