"Not very impressed"

About: Leeds General Infirmary

Was taken into A&E by paramedics with severe back pain. Despite being given numerous painkillers unfortunately I was not able to sit up, let alone stand, while walking was completely out of the question. The junior doctor I was seen by repeatedly attempted to get me to get up and off of the trolley and in mind, made things much worse, when the first attempt should have made it completely clear that I was not able to do so. While I appreciate that the service is under incredible strain at the moment, I very much felt like this doctor was trying to get me out of the door when it was clear that I was not physically able to do so at the time. This, to my mind, was absolutely clear after the first attempt. In the end, after my fourth agonising attempt at getting up, I was admitted and ended up on the wards for three days.

Response from Leeds General Infirmary

Dear MJM Thank you for taking the time out to write to us regarding your experience while in A&E at Leeds General Infirmary, I was very sorry to read of the poor experience you feel you had whilst in our care and I apologies that we did not deliver care that met your expectations. I have passed your comments on to the Matron for A&E to look into; it would be very helpful and beneficial for our services and the care of future patients If you would discuss these issues further with the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). It would also allow us to look into the matters you have raised in further detail. Please call our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0113 2067168 or alternatively email patient.relations@leedsth.nhs.uk . Thank you for taking the time to write to us. With kind regards Rosie Senior Nurse Patient Experience
